The White Room

My flatmate’s room is decorated in pink, whilst mine is white and fluffy — our bedrooms are not surprisingly known as “The White Room” and “The Pink Room”. Makes me think of the Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton) movie with the White Queen’s castle and the Red Queen’s castle. I was in awe when the White Queen’s castle came into view — but I guess you already guessed that!

This is a little something I picked up at the post office on campus today. I will be wearing it whenever I’m home in Norway :) It’s a nice colour and excellent fit! Oh, and I get to show my loyalty to my uni haha. I think perhaps one of my greater strengths is my ‘undying faith’ as someone dear to me once put it. It would however mean that I would be pretty much destroyed/screwed if a person I chose to put my ‘undying faith’ in turned out to be a scum bag — but that’s a risk you got to take, right?

I could always just patch myself up again afterwards with a big, fat dose of patience :D

Snakebite

£2.30 for a pint at the student union bar

This beercoctail is definitely not something we have in Norway. It consists of one part lager, one part cider and a dash of blackcurrant syrup for taste and colour. It’s a sweet, but not overwhelming, drink and I find it goes down very easily (I hate beer, and cider is only tolerable). I could drink it like I drink water! I usually only drink coctails or wine, but it does get rather expensive in the long run. When this drink was introduced to me by Arron, a pharmacy mate, I was happy to find a long drink that didn’t taste like crap! It’s served in pints (1 UK pint = 570ml), usually making people into happy drunks because they tend to drink copious amounts of it. I have to admit, after 4 pints of this I get rather happy myself. I’ll definitely get this drink for any of my friends coming over to England for a visit :)

Next up I’m going to try make Cottage Pie – it’s about the only British dish that I actually enjoy, English cuisine isn’t all that mighty impressive I’m afraid!

First week in MPharm Year 2

I’m back in track in England have settled down nicely in my new flat. I still live on campus due to some very unforeseen last minute decisions last year, but I’m not complainging — I’m still close to everything and campus life in England is a very social one. The photo above shows the dressing corner of my room. I have a wardrobe, but I’ve always been fond of clothes racks to showcase your more original/pretty pieces of clothing. I reckon anyone interested in designing would benefit from having a rack instead of a drawer or a normal wardrobe! The long white garment at the front there is actually my ball gown from last year’s pharmacy ball :) I’ve met the new pharmacy freshers and they all looked a bit scared and overwhelmed. Hah, feels like it was only a month ago that I was a fresher myself! Oh well, I already have quite a bit of work to do only 3 days into the new year, but I’m a second year student now so I guess they expect us to work for a change.

I went to London on Friday to see some friends of mine I’ve been meaning to see for a full year now but never got around to. I saw this guy in Trafalgar Square and was so intrigued by it that I asked him to hold up the signs for me so that I could snap a photo. He refused and said he would do it on one condition: if I agreed to do what the sign said. I reluctantly did my bit by letting them take photo of me holding one of their signs, and there is now a slight possibility that I will be in their music video for their debute single on 4th October. Should be exciting.

It was SocMart yesterday, which means all the societies at my university set up stalls to try to convince you to join their society. I managed to join about 6 societies – Literature, Creative Writing, Hong Kong (I’m in the committee, actually), Pharmacy, Coctail and South-East-Asian. I also signed up for Ladies Society (female equivalent to a Gentleman’s Club, you know those posh ones you sometimes see in England) and Glee society, but I’m not entirely sure how I am going to juggle all this in addition to my studies. Sportsmart commences today as well, which is when all the sports club set up stalls and I might rejoin archery this year. I’m not sure. I wish there were 48 hrs in a day.

In any case, I just realized I forgot to tell you that I am the Creative Director in Hong Kong Society this year. My job is to do all the designing bit for logo, membership cards, business cards, tshirts and hoodies, leaflets, brochures etc. Basically anything that needs designing! Am I enjoying doing something creative again? Hell yes I am!

Second year in England

So I just realized I need to blog more often about my daily life in England on this blog now that one of my best friends just went to Beijing, China for half a year and can’t access any networking sites. Yes, that means facebook and twitter are down, so the best way for me to communicate with her about the jazz of England would be through my blog. Bear with me people, I’m afraid you now have to read about all the whimsical and unimportant little things (that might not make sense to many of you) about my life.

I’ve been spending the last month in Norway catching up with my friends and helping out here and there anywhere I could be of some help, and soon my summer ends as I am booked on a flight back to England on Wednesday 22nd September. I am so very excited to start my second year as a pharmacy student at the University of East Anglia. I probably will be moaning about the crazy truckload of work in a few months time (trust me, they work us hard over there), but right now I am very very excited to go back. I’ve been going through a rather difficult period where I actually had to question my future, but now that I’ve emerged from it successfully I feel fit to fight. Bring it on, baby!

I’ve also bought quite a few books this summer/fall, and one of the books I’ve been anticipating for a while now is Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I loved her Mortal Instruments books, and thought Clockwork Angel would definitely be a good read. So far, so good. Oh, and if you’re wondering from looking at the cover; yes, the story is set in London.

Btw, is it just me, or are the covers for many YA books moody, ugly and plain depressing (not including Cassandra Clare’s covers, I love them)? A lot of YA and childrens literature is amazing (His Dark Materials), but it’s a real shame about the covers. I’m also checking out Garth Nix and Diana Wynne Jones at the moment, I have a good feeling about these two authors. Also, I’m looking forward to getting started on my copy of the new Artemis Fowl book: The Antlantis Complex. How can you NOT love the genius boy Artemis?

Baby bunnies

One of the many baby bunnies that I stalk on campus… Because I want to share with you how adorable my babies are! And also how awesome UEA is. I’m actually going back soon, I’ve missed my bunnies! They will have grown into adults by now and be even more shy and faster than ever…

Also, I am now seriously dark and jump whenever I see my own reflection in mirrors and windows. I know my natural hair colour is the darkest of dark, but that knowledge alone doesn’t prevent me from not recognizing myself with my new superdark ash hue. I also think darker hair (especially rich, brown tones) exudes a more sexy and alluring air than lighter shades, but light colours are more casual and innocent which is what I prefer. I don’t get why “hot babes” always opt for blonde hues, they should go dark to optimize their sex appeal!

And lastly some better quality shots:
