London – seeing an old friend

Monday, August 11th, 2008 by Kiyu

Tourists. Walking everywhere, talking anywhere, dashing from one corner to another, plunging carelessly into the busy traffic, or skimming the streets excitedly with hundreds of shopping bags in their arms. But yet you don’t feel like a tourist yourself.
Walking enthusiastically along on the packed pavements of London together with Rolf, Bao and Ngoc, I found myself letting go of a longing I didn’t know excisted. It felt like I was finally returning to a place I had once treasured and cared for deeply. I felt home, at ease. Not the least bit like a clueless tourist.

Five days. Five days, and we tried to squeeze in everything and everywhere.

We went on lots of walks all over London, but I still don’t remember which road connects to which. Must be because of our addictment to the underground stations! They’re fast, theyre reliable, and they go everywhere in London. It’s too much to write in detail and compassion about everything I did in London, but I did go to Cambridge to visit the old, beautiful colleges where the spirit of the ancients still lives on, and I also did go see musicals and theater which is a must when you visit such a theater-ladden city like London (you know, it’s relly big over there), and I did of course visit the British Museum and National Gallery. I don’t really fancy going to see all the well-known tourist attractions like Madam Tussaud’s, The Eye, The Tower and etcetra (it would be fun, but it’s not on my priority list). I fancy walking around and looking. Getting a feel of the city, experiencing the life and all its complications. And bursting into the weirdest of places only to find it not so weird after all, and then getting a scolding from Ngoc for being too straightforward and silly. And I fancy walking in gorgeous parks and see the animals trusting me enough to let me feed them. Like the little loyal squirrel I fed in a park which name I have forgotten.

But what I fancy the most must be the musicals. I am such a sucker for musicals! The stalls are beautifully adorned, fit for royals and alike, the heavy velvet curtains gently tucked to the sides of all the openings, the balconies ornated and majestetic, and the air residing in the building emmitting a melancholy, noble aura. And then the stage curtain starts accending and a most fantastic show plays out in front of me.

Oh and all the small, but still memoriable sepisodes during our trip! Like this little girl who walked straight up to me and asked me about my hair, how Bao and I catched one of the hotel attendants without his pants on, the little cycling trip we decided to pay someone to do because we were so sick of walking, the OL opening show at Trafalgar Square, meeting up with Phoebe’s family (her mother is so friendly), platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station (Harry Potter), the Botanic Garden in Cambridge and loads of others that I don’t have the capacity to tell you about. Oh I almost wish I would’ve experienced only one thing, so that I could really write passionated about it.
But I can’t.

I’m definitely going back to London, though. Maybe next year with Mai Linh and Phuc :D

Oh, and I bought a lot of books aswell. Four of them are the highly anticipating Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. The last book in the Twilight saga. HIRR :D

There are tons of pictures from the London trip in the gallery, so please do take a look!

English should be my native language!

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 by Kiyu

Sometimes I don’t want to talk in Norwegian. Sometimes I keep a conversation in some other language than my native or second native tongue. Sometimes I keep conversing in English all day long while the other person replies in Norwegian. And most certainly more than ‘sometimes’, people take me for being a foreigner. Hell, it’s fun :D
A couple of days ago, when I once again kept our lively conversation during work in English (Phuc replying half in Norwegian, half in English), one of the customers, thinking we were foreigners, thanked us in that same language. Phuc got so awkard, she demanded I stop talking in English at once. But when did I ever stop to listen to people enough to do as they bid? Unless their point is valid and logical to the point where I see it fit to be considerate. (You see, I usually am not)

I’ve been reading more Shakespeare lately, a book called Tales From Shakespeare written hundred-and-one years ago by Charles and Mary Lamb where they conveyed many of Shakespeare’s plays into short stories. I happen to enjoy these well written prose summaries so much, it makes me want to read the actual plays. It’s so easy to read, I somehow unconsciously convinced Phuc to come over to Shakespeare’s fantastic world and read them.

I’m off in less than 48 hours, and I just found out I’ll be meeting up with Phoebe aswell. How exciting! We’ll actually spend the one day I’m staying over at her house in Northampton to make me a Yuna rod haha :D

London here I come!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 by Kiyu

Flight tickets bought, hotel room booked (it is, isn’t it Rolf?), excitement gushing and my brain’s going mushy. Yes, I’m off to London on monday! :D
I’ve always wanted to go to London. Actually, England has been on top of my priority list for quite some time now, I just never had the money or the opportunity to go. That is, until now.
You see, I’m not the average London tourist who goes there to shop and look at the famous attractions. Oh no. My trip is going to be more like Lutten’s.

I’m gonna feed the squirrels.

And as you can see, I just launched Version 3. Lilypond. Isn’t it pretty! I finally managed to create a white layout :D I spent 3-4 hours designing it, another couple of hours coding it. I originally had a lighter version, but people voted for this darker one, so I ended up using it. I WAS originally going to bug one of my friends into snapping lily pictures for me, but they were so slow that I settled with a stock photo from Adiastock instead.
The tabs finally get more attention now! Please do visit them often (except for the login tab of course, it’s only there to make life easier for me and Lutten).
A few bugs are still present (SCREW IE), but I’ll get back to them when I get home from work. Please report to me if you find any other bugs than the ones in the gallery and content background missing in IE!

Seriously. Stop using IE. BURN YOU.

Use Opera. Or Firefox.
