Snakebite

£2.30 for a pint at the student union bar

This beercoctail is definitely not something we have in Norway. It consists of one part lager, one part cider and a dash of blackcurrant syrup for taste and colour. It’s a sweet, but not overwhelming, drink and I find it goes down very easily (I hate beer, and cider is only tolerable). I could drink it like I drink water! I usually only drink coctails or wine, but it does get rather expensive in the long run. When this drink was introduced to me by Arron, a pharmacy mate, I was happy to find a long drink that didn’t taste like crap! It’s served in pints (1 UK pint = 570ml), usually making people into happy drunks because they tend to drink copious amounts of it. I have to admit, after 4 pints of this I get rather happy myself. I’ll definitely get this drink for any of my friends coming over to England for a visit :)

Next up I’m going to try make Cottage Pie – it’s about the only British dish that I actually enjoy, English cuisine isn’t all that mighty impressive I’m afraid!

First week in MPharm Year 2

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 by Kiyu

I’m back in track in England have settled down nicely in my new flat. I still live on campus due to some very unforeseen last minute decisions last year, but I’m not complainging — I’m still close to everything and campus life in England is a very social one. The photo above shows the dressing corner of my room. I have a wardrobe, but I’ve always been fond of clothes racks to showcase your more original/pretty pieces of clothing. I reckon anyone interested in designing would benefit from having a rack instead of a drawer or a normal wardrobe! The long white garment at the front there is actually my ball gown from last year’s pharmacy ball :) I’ve met the new pharmacy freshers and they all looked a bit scared and overwhelmed. Hah, feels like it was only a month ago that I was a fresher myself! Oh well, I already have quite a bit of work to do only 3 days into the new year, but I’m a second year student now so I guess they expect us to work for a change.

I went to London on Friday to see some friends of mine I’ve been meaning to see for a full year now but never got around to. I saw this guy in Trafalgar Square and was so intrigued by it that I asked him to hold up the signs for me so that I could snap a photo. He refused and said he would do it on one condition: if I agreed to do what the sign said. I reluctantly did my bit by letting them take photo of me holding one of their signs, and there is now a slight possibility that I will be in their music video for their debute single on 4th October. Should be exciting.

It was SocMart yesterday, which means all the societies at my university set up stalls to try to convince you to join their society. I managed to join about 6 societies – Literature, Creative Writing, Hong Kong (I’m in the committee, actually), Pharmacy, Coctail and South-East-Asian. I also signed up for Ladies Society (female equivalent to a Gentleman’s Club, you know those posh ones you sometimes see in England) and Glee society, but I’m not entirely sure how I am going to juggle all this in addition to my studies. Sportsmart commences today as well, which is when all the sports club set up stalls and I might rejoin archery this year. I’m not sure. I wish there were 48 hrs in a day.

In any case, I just realized I forgot to tell you that I am the Creative Director in Hong Kong Society this year. My job is to do all the designing bit for logo, membership cards, business cards, tshirts and hoodies, leaflets, brochures etc. Basically anything that needs designing! Am I enjoying doing something creative again? Hell yes I am!

Polaroids at a BBQ

Friday, June 4th, 2010 by Kiyu

Tina’s polaroids of us from a BBQ on Wednesday. Left polaroid: Corinne, me, Doris and Heather | Right polaroid: Corinne, Tina, me and Heather

Looking at these polaroids, it struck me how incredibly much I’ve actually changed appearance-wise during the past year. I’ve become much more feminine, and I’m not sure my classmates from high school would ever recognize me if they saw me now!

I’ve had such a great time after my exams ended (WOW intense period, power napping only, more on that later), being up to something every day and keeping myself occupied. Granted, there were a few episodes I could have lived without (like how I got drunk for the very first time last night out), but overall it’s been a really good time! I’ve also FINALLY dusted the dust off my Canon 450D and let it do some work again, so there will be loads of photos coming up within the next week I think!

Spring is fast approaching UK

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 by Kiyu

Snapped this photo when I was in London with ML in the weekend on our way to a Mac cosmetics store. I’ve seen loads of these pink flowering trees all over Norwich now, they’re gorgeous! If anyone have any clue of what kind of flower/tree this is, please educate me!

I love all the buds and colours popping up everywhere in UK right now, but loathe the mushy weather. Didn’t know UK was this grey and dull… Did you know we get more overcast than sunny? Something like 60% overcast and 30% sun after what I’ve seen from living 8 months in Norwich!

Anyway, came back to UK dragging my dearest ML with me on friday, and went into London on sunday to see Lion King the musical. The trip into London was quite tiring so we actually ended up falling asleep during a scene with Timon and Pumba… yes, I am ashamed. Tip to myself: never book tickets for any events for the same day you’re travelling a long distance!

Had this AMAZING strawberry tart at a fancy cafè at Picadilly Circus. I normally steer away from whipped cream because I don’t like the taste, but this tart made me LOVE it!

We had to hit Yo!Sushi because ML loves sushi, and I tried out chicken teriyaki which was DELICIOUS. Next time I go somewhere they serve Japanese food I’ll get something teriyaki. Yummmm. Great service and nice people at Yo!Sushi!

A disheveled-looking Kiyu sipping one of those addictive smoothies. Raise your hand if you hate wind and humidity! Hopefully my newly bought S factor Smoothing Lusterizer will save me from future hair battles with mother earth’s whims!

For more photos, head over to the gallery!

AWH, ANNA!

Sunday, March 14th, 2010 by Kiyu

All the way from Hong Kong has this little thing travelled. Anna, it made me so happy and I shall write back <3

And yes, I let my address stay visible on purpose, because that’s the address of the post office where all student mail is to be sent to, meaning you can’t actually stalk me, unless… well, unless you’re on campus and can actually spot me and physically follow me around. Omb, creepy.
