Any volunteer work in town?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009 by Kiyu

It’s Christmas Eve, we had our Christmas Dinner at noon because my parents are going to a party this evening. Which means I won’t have much to do this evening. Because everyone is with their families, yeah? Well, even if my family don’t have the same connection with Christmas like I do… I really love Christmas. It’s just magical. I wish I could experience a proper, traditional Christmas Eve sometime in my life. That would be nice.

Anyway, since I have time to kill, I want to do some good this evening. I intend to drive around town see if there is anything in town I can help with tonight. You know those places where they invite those less fortunate to a warm Christmas meal for free? I’m going to find such a place and see if they need any help. Surely they must need some help? I want to contribute to someone’s Christmas Eve. Make it just a little bit better if I can. Put a smile on someone’s face. Bring some happiness into someone’s day. If it’s possible, I’d like to do that.

Christmas presents are such a bother

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 by Kiyu

Getting Christmas presents is such a pain. That’s why I never ask for anything for Christmas. In fact, I tend to tell people not to get me anything so that I won’t have to drag my lazy butt around trying to find gazillions of people their special something. Alright, so i’m exaggerating the number just a tiny bit — it’s more like 17 people (closest friends + family), but that’s 17 people too many for me. It’s not that I don’t like giving presents, I love surprising people with gifts. I love wrapping because you can be very creative about it, and I love making specially crafted cards for each individual person if I have the time to. And above all — I love seeing the recipient’s face light up in surprise. It’s such a satisfying feeling to have given something that the other person truly appreciates, you know?

And that’s where my issue lies; I like to give people that special something. Something personal, something with affectionate value — and running madly around looking for that magical thing because it is expected from you, is not the right way to go about it. That’s why, I avoid Christmas presents as far as possible. When I do give presents, it will be because I just happen to stumble upon that special something, or it might be something that I put in great affection and effort into crafting. Either way, it will be a gift of much love :)

Oh, and I’m back home in Norway again btw. It was an adventure in itself to get back here, but I was delivered to a waiting mother and sister in one whole piece so I’m happy :) Usually, delays on longer journeys would tick me off so badly, but it didn’t really bother me this time. Because you know, neither the crew nor any of the other members of staff could help it that mother nature wasn’t in a very jolly mood!

Carol singers

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 by Kiyu

I love carol singers. Most people seem to detest them, but I really enjoy their singing. I could just stop up and listen to them for ages. Which is what I did today when I found this group (photo above) outside Morrisons here in Wales. Derek thought that was annoying. I really want to go to one of them Christmas mass choir sessions as well, they seem so magical. Must be so ethereal live. Oh, come with me to one, someone!

Christmas Dinner #2

Saturday, December 12th, 2009 by Kiyu

More pictures from the evening to show you the adventure of my popping the champagne bottle (I stole the pictures from Anvis/Ian).

I won my bottle of champagne.

Ian is giving me instrucitons on how to pop the champagne.

Priceless!

“For Norway!” Haha. Silly Kingson is the only one who noticed the camera.

I did it! Merry Christmas! :D

Christmas Dinner

Thursday, December 10th, 2009 by Kiyu

Last night I went to a christmas dinner arranged by Hong Kong Society (although I’m not even a member). It was great fun! You know, life was smiling to me before I came over here, and even here it keeps smiling to me. There was a prize draw during the dinner last night, and somehow I managed to get the big prize; a bottle of champagne. They gave me the whole ice-filled bucket the bottle was in, and 8 glasses — told me it was up to me to choose who I wanted to share my champagne with. Tough choice! Too bad I don’t have the pictures of when I popped the champagne, Ian was covering in fear! Apparently I’m a hazard to everyone, ’cause my whole table was hiding! xD

My last day at uni before the christmas break officially starts, is tomorrow. As a christmas present and to congratulate my favorite lecturer, Dr Paul McDermott, on his promotion, I wrapped a satin ribbon around a bar of melkesjokolade (he loves it) and made him a little gift tag to go along.

I’m seeing Him tonight because I’m leaving for Wales tomorrow with Derek, a pharmacy mate. The plan is to stay at Derek’s for a couple of days, then we’re going road-tripping around UK to friends of his and mine. I’ll be heading back to Norwich to pick up my stuff after a week, then Derek’s taking me to London where I am to spend two days with Him, and finally I’ll set my course to the north, also more commonly known as home!

I’ll see you in 21 days, lovelies!
