I got a post card yesterday! From Thailand! I’ve been told there are more to come from some other overseas friends of mine and I simply cannot wait! I love getting stuff in the mail, it’s so nice! I’ve also taken a liking to pulling my hair up in a bun because it makes me look more intelligent/smart/intellectual/you know the drill and less like a brainless chick. Hehe. Well, I have to scoot off and get ready for my pre-birthday meal with the girls now, laters!

Homemade Sushi

ML showing how to roll the sushi.
It was a fine summer day 1-2 years ago that I tried sushi for the very first time in my life. I was convinced that I would love it. Why wouldn’t I, when I loved anything else Japan-related? I pushed away the horrible memories of earlier experiences with raw seafood (you’d be surprised at how weird Asians are), and deliberated for a very long time whether or not I would have the guts to chomp down some raw salmon wrapped in sticky rice. The sushi was trapped between my chopsticks for quite some time before I finally managed to take a bite and chew — and had to hurry to find somewhere to spit it out.
I can’t eat sushi, the consistency of the raw fish makes my stomach roll and churn, and always threatens to force my body to throw up my tummy contents. Not a pleasant feeling, and definitely not a pleasant sight. Sigh.
So I just watched ML and Phuc make the sushi yesterday.

The misshaped sushi.
Phuc and I also went out for a late movie at the local cinema last night. We watched The Proposal, which surpassed all my expectations! It’s no usual chick-flick, actually, I wouldn’t say it’s a chick-flick at all; it’s perfect for both genders with its genuine humor and small moments of compassion! It’s hilarious, but not in the brainless way, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! The trailer does it no justice at all. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Cales composed a beautiful song for my birthday (yes, he’s a pianist). I jokingly suggested the idea half a year ago or so, but I didn’t really think he’d actually do it. He was home for the weekend and I had him play it for me when I went down yesterday to pay him and Katrina a visit. Wish I hadn’t been too entranced by it, I would have gotten my phone out to record it and let you all hear!

Saturday, August 15th, 2009 by KiyuI got the craft labels I ordered two weeks ago, today:

I can now label all my past and future creations! I simply cannot wait ’till I design something for a friend! Then I can sew on a label onto the creation!
I’m now officially 19 years old and can no longer get 50% off at dentist appointments. Knew I should have booked an appointment before I turned 19. The weather is horrible and I have no idea how to spend the rest of my birthday after laboring 7 hours at work. Just met Katrina, though, the exchange student from California who is ‘replacing’ Lutten who has gone off to America for a year as well. She is attending my High School I graduated from this spring. She’s not very shy, and that’s such a huge relief to me; it means my intimidating personality won’t scare her off too soon! I honestly mean no harm by it, but I tend to get quite eager and even more happy-go-lucky than usual when meeting new people. I think Lutten herself can confirm that, can you not?
Oh, and guess what. I got a birthday text message from Cales this morning. I was shocked to see it. Who knew the boy could actually initiate any kind of communication?
The fruits of my labor at work this morning;

I bought rain boots for the very first time in my life. No more wet shoes! All I own are ballerinas and converse shoes. Not very waterproof.

Well, I’d better stalk off to the kitchen to make something edible for my starving brothers!
