I do agree with the friendliness of a campus is very important, and unfortunately for me, that was not a consideration when I chose my school. I ended up attending a HUGE state university, which for introverts and shy people, can prove to be a problem. I'm grateful that I made close friends eventually, or else I would've hated college life.
