“Twilighters, gather here!”

December 12th, 2008 by Kiyu

Armed with a “Twilighters gather here!” sign and one of my trusty twilighters, I burst into the theater lobby where my eyes searched diligently for the ten other members. A hand shot up and waved at us, and assuming it belonged to some mate of mine, I bounced excitedly towards the coven at the corner while waving with my sign.
“Give me a break! Kiyu, you didn’t!” Trinh exclaimed when I entered her sight, and Betty joined too when she realized what I had made.
“Of course I did!” I replied, and gave my little sign a proud shake. It was a thick sheet of white paper mounted on one of my broken wooden arrows, the spine decorated with ribbons. Betty took the sign, and continued waving with it. I can always count on her to do embarrassing things.

Well placed in our seats and lightly chattering about the anticipated movie, someone pricked my shoulder and said my name. I spun my head around, and saw to my great surprise Vegar, my junior high school crush, sitting there. What was he doing here, I wondered. This isn’t exactly a movie guys would pick! He wasn’t too sure himself why he was there, and wondered in return what I was doing there. Of course I would be here, I’m a no 1 fan! The girl sitting next to him exclaimed “That’s great!”, and it was only then that I noticed their intertwined hands. That answered my question, his girlfriend had made him go. Haha. I felt so bad for him that I gave him a thumbs up and assured him that there was going to be a lot of action in the movie. Glancing around at the other seats, I noticed a few more guys looking rather tortured. No doubt they were in the same position!

The trailers and ads finally finished then, and the movie began. I saw a deer, running for its life. Someone was hunting it. Bella was introduced, it didn’t take too long before Eric was there, trying his best to hit on her. He was more desperate than I remembered him to be, Mike was lame and a wannabe, but Jessica on the other hand suddenly became very interesting. Charlie was simply awesome with his many witty lines. The introduction of the Cullen kids was all fame and glory, and I found myself squeeling at the sight of Jasper and Alice more than Edward. I am especially proud of spotting Stephenie Meyer in that second cafe scene. I thought I missed her when I didn’t see her in the first.
One of my favorite scenes from the movie is the whole baseball game. It was actually better than the book version (which I didn’t pay much attention to), probably because the baseball choreography was so appealing visually. Alice was an adorable pitcher with her tiny foot raised high as if she was going to prick holes in the air, and Jasper looked really cool when he was up for the bat and swung it elegantly before he sent the ball thundering across the field. Edward looked effortless when he raced into the woods for the ball. I think that’s one of very few scenes where the Cullens actually look the part, where they use their inhuman strength and speed while maintaining that elegant look to their movements.

Despite the brilliant baseball scene and a few more pleasing ones, the movie dissappointed me more than I thought it would. I knew I was in for a dissappointment anyways.
Well, don’t let me keep you from watching it!

I seriously adore Jasper now.

I’m just a teensy bit surprised you were a bit disappointed in the movie. I thought your rose-tinted glasses would gloss over everything. Then again, I kind of half-expected you would be slightly disappointed, considering my impression that you’ve got a fairly critical eye :)

I was hoping for my rose-tinted glasses to gloss over everything! But apparently my ‘fairly critical eye’ won over :(

Lutten: I’m glad your rose-tinted glasses were stronger than mine! Saves you the suffering of not being pleased! I wish I was just as pleased as you : (
