Semester 2, week 1, day 5

January 15th, 2010 by Kiyu

5 days into second semester, and it’s not too bad yet. Work pile is still “light” ( I guess in normal sense it’s heavy?), just finished my 11 pages lab report thursday at noon, so went out clubbing to celebrate my neighbour Tim’s birthday that night. I used to think Norwegians partied a lot — but coming here has totally put Norwegians in shame. It’s normal to go out 4 times a week, and here in Norwich it’s usually tuesdays, thursdays, fridays and saturdays, but could be any day, really. And let’s not forget the flat parties and pre-drinks either! Course mates having a hungover during lectures is not a rare sight.

I went to SocMart on wednesday, which is a the day where all uni sports clubs and societies have stands to try to make you join them, and despite already joining two and not having time for more — I ended up joining at least three more; rave, APES, and literature. Usually, people join like ten societies and never turn up, but I fully intend to go to literature events! LitSoc! Been looking for that since last term! Also ran into five Norwegian exchange students who just arrived a few days ago, and ‘boy was I excited to see them! I was talking to a friend of mine at HKSoc table when I heard someone mention “Norway”, and I whirled around to politely ask; “Excuse me, did you just say Norway?” and you can guess how that continued!

I know I’m normally very dense and naive, but this guy from archery club is either being very friendly or I dunno? “What are you doing tonight?” “What are you doing friday night?” “Would you like to go for a cup of coffee [after practice]?” “We’re having this party next week … ” Yada yada yada. Usually, I’d think nothing of it, but lately they’ve been telling me not to be so gullible …

Right, need to jump into the shower and then go food shopping in town. I’m having lasagne with Janay tonight, and apparently I’m cooking!
