Morning dew and watercolors

July 24th, 2008 by Kiyu

While the bright morning sun peers down at the peaceful streets and heats my back until I almost start sweating, my pencil is already busy dancing across the thick, medium texturixed watercolor paper sheat that I treasure so much.
The place is called “Rådhusamfiet” and is a huge staircase of stones with colored lights and Porsgrunn’s flower carved onto them. The lake which our two neighbouring towns, Skien and Porsgrunn, keep arguing over is in my view, and I couldn’t have enjoyed my morning better.
I had gotten up at 8:00 AM to take the bus to town and enjoy the fresh morning air and the quite, yet bustling life in the town’s streets.
My faithful pencil and erasers were with me, and my newly bought watercolor tools tagged along aswell.
It was perfect.

Yeah, I forgot Alice is pale, and her head is way too big. But you know, I can’t push any CTRL+Z when I work with traditional mediums :D

It’s been 6 years since I last played with watercolors (akvarell).
You know, I get bitten by bugs easily, and this time the watercolor bug came and claimed me as its victim. I saw a watercolor drawing (actually, I saw more than one) by a manga artist, and it was so fascinating that I knew I just had to try it out myself. And now I’m bitten twice over.
I just can’t help wondering why on earth I’ve never started using watercolors before! It’s a lot faster, much more advanced looking (digital works has become so common it’s not special anymore), the outcome is a lot prettier and it’s hella more fun.
The only backfire about it is that it’s quite expensive. One 12ml tube with watercolorpaint costs me 50-90kr, and the watercolor paper I have to paint on (normal paper won’t do) is not any cheaper. One block with 12 sheats of 300g paper is priced 100kr, and the watercolor brushes ranges from 26-100+ kr depending on the size. And the exclusive brushes are even more expensive. They can cost you as much as a couple of thousand kroner.
But you see, it’s worth it. I love watercolors way too much.

Yep! En av mine favorittsteder i byen :D

Haha. Jeg har alltid mislikt å male, jeg bare fikk det aldri til xD Det er underlig hgva 2-3 år med digital fargelegging kan gjøre for deg. Nå synes jeg akvarell er minst like lett! (Om enn mye lettere)
