Christmas presents are such a bother

December 23rd, 2009 by Kiyu

Getting Christmas presents is such a pain. That’s why I never ask for anything for Christmas. In fact, I tend to tell people not to get me anything so that I won’t have to drag my lazy butt around trying to find gazillions of people their special something. Alright, so i’m exaggerating the number just a tiny bit — it’s more like 17 people (closest friends + family), but that’s 17 people too many for me. It’s not that I don’t like giving presents, I love surprising people with gifts. I love wrapping because you can be very creative about it, and I love making specially crafted cards for each individual person if I have the time to. And above all — I love seeing the recipient’s face light up in surprise. It’s such a satisfying feeling to have given something that the other person truly appreciates, you know?

And that’s where my issue lies; I like to give people that special something. Something personal, something with affectionate value — and running madly around looking for that magical thing because it is expected from you, is not the right way to go about it. That’s why, I avoid Christmas presents as far as possible. When I do give presents, it will be because I just happen to stumble upon that special something, or it might be something that I put in great affection and effort into crafting. Either way, it will be a gift of much love :)

Oh, and I’m back home in Norway again btw. It was an adventure in itself to get back here, but I was delivered to a waiting mother and sister in one whole piece so I’m happy :) Usually, delays on longer journeys would tick me off so badly, but it didn’t really bother me this time. Because you know, neither the crew nor any of the other members of staff could help it that mother nature wasn’t in a very jolly mood!
