Jan’s 21st

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by Kiyu

Stole the photo from Terence because I didn’t bring my own camera. Jan’s birthday dinner, which was great! I’ll write later, I’ll also tell you about how I pretended to be a forensic scientist in labs a week ago — you know, like in shows like CSI and The Mentalist?

Sorry.

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 by Kiyu

I know. I know.

My blog posts have started to detoriate ever since I came to UK. Partly, because my free time is limited, and partly because I want to govern my own and involved parties’ privacy. It was brought to my attention about a month ago that I had unknown readers here in Norwich as well, and because they are likely to see me hastily running from lecture to lecture or wandering dreamily around on a fine day such as today — they might recognize me. They might know the people I interact with, and because I don’t want to disrespect my people’s privacy, I’d rather not have gossip spawn. I’d love to talk about the bonds I make here, all my thoughts and feelings on any topic that might have caught my attention at the moment — but alas it would be challenging without risking exposing people who would like their privacy to stay private. I could write in Norwegian, but I know some have used Google Translate to decipher some of the content here, and though it cannot possibly translate completely, they will be able to pick up on something.

You know how I said in a post during summer that I don’t acticely search for love? That I believe it comes to you when it sees fit?

I don’t worry about not having a boyfriend, I don’t worry about not having someone to be with, and I definitely don’t search for love. I live in this fairy tale where believe I don’t have to actively go out and look for a guy, he and I will bump into each other someday suddenly — and then we’ll ignite a spark, and perhaps create some history together. I believe love will come to me when it sees fit. What’s the rush? Perhaps I’m just cluelessly romantic and don’t want to believe in reality, but hey, let me live my fairy tale.

Clearly, I’m in need of some love, 26th July 2009
-

Well, my patience might have paid off. So suddenly, after several years of blissfull ignorance. I see more clearly now, I’m not in a daze that confuses me and makes me cause other people pain. This time, I might be the recipient of that very pain. But I’m aware, and I think I’m prepared; so bring it on.

Patience is a virtue, whatever you say Kings.

(In editing)
A feathery touch,
That tingling sensation —
Of consuming too much
Of sense’s declaration.

A path was trailed
Through land unknown —
Though past have failed,
This One has grown.

This is a true progress.

Physiology…

Friday, November 13th, 2009 by Kiyu

Drained. Physiology and pharmacology is taking a toll on me. This is how frustrated I am.

Course test in about 11 hours counts 20% towards final mark. Oh dear.

My bathroom looks scary.

LCR Christmas Fair

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 by Kiyu

The LCR is the ‘common’ hall at UEA where we have all our concerts, parties and events — as I told you yesterday, there was a christmas fair there today at 10:00-15:00, and I spent my one hour lunch break at 13:00 wandering among the stalls with glittering eyes. I think my pharmacy mates find my easily triggered excitement rather amusing. I was so excited during the fair that Clara suggested I come with her and her boyfriend (who speaks Norwegian fairly well!) to what is rumoured to be the biggest Christmas fair in UK! Wuuhuu!

Anyways, I just wanted to show you my treasures from the LCR Christmas fair:

Chocolate Fudge. A Brit thing! I had to have some and see what the fuzz was all about. It’s alright, I never was a big fan of chocolate so I’m probably not the best to judge. Norfolk is the county I live in by the way (you know, like how Telemark is a county?), which means this is made locally. I dunno why, but I’ve become unusually concerned with local sources and environmental friendly everything. Have I finally gone green?

LIBAO HP shoes. Funky, unique and colourful shoes which are hand painted! I also got another green pair (my favourite) which I’m going to pick up tomorrow morning. They look like this! Now, you might wonder why the hell I didn’t just paint my own shoes, yeah? Thing is, we gotta support the artists, don’t we? Handcrafted arts and crafts are more expensive than mass fabricated ones, but if we stop buying objects made with pure love, the world of creativity and uniqueness would fall apart and I would have been a sad fellow indeed. If I started selling my crafts, I would want people to buy them as well…

The blue fellow you can spot on the bed there is for you, Phuc. His name is Boghog Blu and is a rather happy fellow I adopted from The Jade Tree. He enjoys laughing and cuddling! Remember he’s unique and hand made, there’s no other like him! My contribution for not being there on your birthday!

Tonight is Day Glo Rave party at the LCR, meaning glow sticks, glowing face paint and loads of FUNKY COLOURS! I LOVE COLOURS! Let’s rock those neon colours!

Admittance to a mental hospital, please.

Saturday, October 31st, 2009 by Kiyu

Dear Brits: please watch out for me the following month.

Consequences unbeknownst to me, I have just sealed a nightmare of a deal with Lloyd and will be in a very unstable mental state for the next thirty days. The clever bastard has just tricked me into watching a bloody scary film for Halloween, and with my highly active imagination due to my creative part, my mind is going to blow and my nerves suffer greatly for a full month. Oh dear.

Oh, Trinh, a great movie I have to recommend you: Unleashed with Jet Li.

Attempting to read “Pride and Prejudice”!

Sunday, October 18th, 2009 by Kiyu

I went to the library to do some much needed work.

But was soon distracted by Floor 2 (floor 3 in Norway), shelve PR 4034 where this love was found;

I’m going to ignore Lutten’s complaints about the language in classics being far too ‘stiff and boring’ to enjoy, and give the book a fair go. So far I have nothing to complain about; the language is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.

Later in the evening I headed over to Sol’s flat for some sushi, even though I knew sushi would ignite my gagging reflexes. I had fun nonetheless, just had a mini-buffet instead by stealing the sushi ingredients while they were busy rolling up the fillings in seaweed. We all ended up in Sol’s room chatting, listening to beautiful and funky music, and fighting over bed space while Derek was behaving ridiculously funny. Had a lovely evening indeed.

Sol is my Korean friend I told you about in an earlier post. PGGANG, if you have decent sense, you should envy me: if I go to Korea, I can stay at her house!

More video coming your way

Saturday, October 10th, 2009 by Kiyu

The lecturer showed us six random, chemical structures. Looking expectantly at the rows of students before him, he asked if we knew what they were. “Morphine,” a voice from somewhere behind me, announced. “Heroine,” he continued, while my expression gradually changed from puzzlement to disbelief. Not because I didn’t believe in him, he was correct, but because I was put off. It never occurred to me that I was competing against that. Was I supposed to recognize the structures? I sure hope he was just being clever.

I hear the temperature back home is dropping below zero in the mornings these days. And apparently, it’s snowing in Trondheim. Me? I’ve just registered that it’s actually October now.

I have posted a few pictures, btw; http://kiyu-shii.net/zenphoto/photography/events/uea-1st-year/

“Ladies first.”

Friday, October 9th, 2009 by Kiyu

The sound of two pairs of feet clacked across the floor, oddly distinct from the others. One could tell by the slow thuds echoing softly across the floor, that the owners had all the time in the world to kill. Both of their feet were pointing towards the same destination; the entrance of the building. The leading pair, which had a dignified air to its movements, was clad in a pair of polished smart shoes. The pair trotting cheerily behind was wrapped up in all bubbles and cotton candy, more commonly known as flats or ballerinas among the mortals.

Polished was reading aloud from a book while Ballerina was busy tending to her paper bags. Just before the exit, Polished halted and put away his book.

“Ladies first,” he curtsied and stepped aside. He had clearly been ahead of her, but he still indicated for Ballerina to pass through before him. Her eyes grew wide with wonder. Did he bow just now? She stepped through, looking rather shyly towards Polished; “Why, thank you.”

As Polished followed through after her, he flashed her a brilliant smile and wished her a “lovely evening”. And then he was gone.

Brits. Such true gentlemen.

Tough stuff, my lovelies!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 by Kiyu

So I’ve properly started my course, and let me just tell you; it’s tough. I’m not just saying it, it is tough. Not just because I don’t recognize the scientific terms in English and therefore tend to stare at the lecturer with a blank face (I actually do), and it’s not just because we are deducted marks for every silly thing (though I guess it’s fair, this is England), and it’s not just because I need to finish my course in only four years, which academic school years are way shorter than Norwegian ones. No, it’s because I have 6 modules (emner) this term while my friends and flat mates have 3. Now THAT is freaky. Having 6 modules also means my workload piles up, and I have to do several assignments in one night. Which again means I don’t really have much time for anything else, especially when my days are 9-17.

I’m slightly freaked out, one; because I obviously lack the vocabulary to understand and participate verbally
Two; because of the above, I (will) fall behind
Three; I won’t have the time to breathe

Oh, Facebook and Twitter are quite useful if you want to know all the random and silly things during my life here.
